YOUNG KIDS, HARD TIME
Guest speaker Scott Hooker will screen the new MSNBC documentary, “Young Kids, Hard Time” during the 11 a.m. service.
This groundbreaking film examines the issue of sentencing juvenile offenders to the adult prison system. At a time when many states are considering the threshold at which youths can be tried as adults and committed to the adult correctional system, it follows children currently behind bars in maximum security prisons. The 45-minute film will be introduced by Scott Hooker, MSNBC's Senior Executive Producer, who will explain how it was developed and produced.
Recent public screenings in New York and Washington have brought together government leaders and juvenile justice experts and advocates, who are asking whether there are both practical and moral problems with the unique way young offenders are being treated in the United States. It's a question that relates directly to the Unitarian Universalist principles which respect the inherent worth and dignity of every person; and promote justice, equity and compassion in human relations.
